Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 410 - Scoutmaster Minute...
** May 2007 Scoutmaster's Minute - How To Catch A Monkey**
Do you know how to catch a monkey?
Its very easy, they really trap themselves. All you have to do is take a gord, cut a hole in it the size of a monkeys arm. Full it with peanuts or something else good. Then tie it to a tree and wait for the monkey to come.
Confused???
The monkey will reach his hand into the gord and grab as much as he can. His fist is then stuck in the gord, and because he is greedy and wants it all, he gets his hand stuck.
Moral to the story, don't be a monkey and be greedy, you will too get caught.

** January 2007 Scoutmaster's Minute - Be Mentally Awake **
Over the past few weeks, we have all heard on the news information about a boy, who is a boy scout, that was abducted. They boy was found, thanks to one of his friends, who saw someone leaving the area. The information that boy was able to provide the police allowed the police to find him. Not only did they find him, they also found another boy that was abducted 4 years ago.
There are two points that I see to make here to our scouts....the first is that we should all be mentally awake at all times. The boy that reported what he saw to the police was mentally awake, and he is the reason that his friend was found. The other is to emphasize on the buddy system. Even out of scouting, you should strive to be in places with someone else. Statistically, children that are abducted are alone, abductors have a much harder time abducting a child if the child is with someone (a witness). Keep that in mind where ever you are, and remember to always be mentally awake.

** October 2006 Scoutmaster's Minute - Congratulations **
Scoutmasters Minute
Scouts…..Congratulations on all of the awards that you earned and received at the Court of Honor. I am extremely proud of all of the hard work you all put forth this summer. Many of you have earned several merit badges, and that could have placed you closer to rank advancement. Over the next few weeks, take some time to look over your book. If you do not have it up to date, please see Mrs. Hayden so that she can help to update your books. Look at what you need to make your next rank, and concentrate over the next few weeks on your next rank. If you need help, see your patrol advisers or myself.
Congratulations to Conor, his Eagle Court of Honor was October 7th. There was a great turnout, and remarks by everyone were very good, including Conor’s speech at the end of his Court of Honor.
There are many things coming up, it will prove to be a very busy few months. Please check the web site often to make sure you are not missing anything.

** September 2006 Scoutmaster's Minute - Getting Back to Work...**
I hope that you all had a good summer, and that getting back to school went well. September 5th starts off our 2006-2007 Scout Year. We have a lot of programs and activities planned for this coming year, and many more to come with our Scouts continued input. Our focus for September will be Cooking. We are going to do some instructional cooking the first two weeks and the last two weeks we will have patrol cook offs to see which patrol does the best. I look forward to seeing you all on the 5th and I hope you all have a happy and safe Labor Day Weekend.
** August 2006 Scoutmaster's Minute - Looking Forward...**
I want to thank all of the parents that came together on Tuesday night to plan our activity calendar for 2006 and 2007. As you can see from the calendar, we have a lot of fun things to look forward this coming year. If any of you have other suggestions that may fill in the rest of our calendar, please let me or Andrew know.
We will not be having any more regular troop meetings until September 5th. The program for September will be stovemanship and cooking. Please make sure that you arrive on time so that we can complete the program each night on time. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:00. Uniform for meetings in September will be Class “B” (Troop T-Shirt).
I hope that you are all enjoying the summer and I look forward to seeing everyone in September.
** July 2006 Scoutmaster's Minute - Saturated for Summer Camp...**
I hope that everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July. We are fresh back from Bashore Scout Reservation, and hopefully everyone is dried out by now. I want to thank all of the scouts and leaders that attended camp for keeping the program at summer camp going during the horrible weather. To all of the scouts, I commend you all for sticking it out through the week and hopefully if you learned anything it is that you will pack rain gear even if your Scoutmaster tells you that you wont really need it. I look forward to seeing all of you and your families at the pool party on the 11th, and let us all wish those attending the High Adventure program at Claytor Lake a good week at camp.
** June 2006 Scoutmaster's Minute - Summer is approaching...**
It is hard to believe that in just a few weeks that most of us will be at summer camp. This year we have 2 summer camps, thank you John Tomlinson and Chuck Swan for organizing camps this year.
Our web site is improving every week, thanks to Sean Josephs who volunteered to update and maintain it, please use it to get up to date information on summer activities.
I will be updating my Scoutmaster Minutes more frequently, so please check them out.
